As an artist and observer, I have attempted to capture a photographic representation of our memories and empirical experiences to demonstrate the way in which our mind works; how it abstracts our memories and exaggerates our senses.
The focus of the photographs is not always on what may seem to be the subject, but instead it might be on grains of sand in the foreground, the details of a hand in the background, or the fold of a flower in front of a landscape. The depth of field is shallow and only a portion of the photograph is in focus. These elements add to my representation of a memory.
This series illustrates the elusive characteristics of our mind. The shallow depth of field parallels how our memory starts off unfocused with little detail, but as we ponder the memory, we begin to remember more details and we recall specific sensory experiences. The sharp detailed subject contrasting the unfocused environment targets specific sensory experiences in our minds making the viewer relate his/her own memories to the photographs.

See enough horror and experience enough pain and you become separated from your self.

An artist must create as often as possible. To cease this task is, to the soul of an artist, as ceasing to breathe.
